An Early Morning Sunrise at Knife Point

As I woke up this morning to the smog and hustle and bustle of Denver I tried to remember the few short seconds of the glorious sunrise that greeted me last Wednesday in Indian Basin. Rightly referred to as Knife Point, the jagged edges of this area are just one of the geological formations that make this area one unto its own. Good Morning Pinedale!

Wind River Rodeo: Round II

As the last of our group returns to Denver we can truly understand how grand an experience Pinedale was . We traveled to the small community to document the people, culture and landscape of the small town in Sublette County.

As we geared up for the Friday night rodeo I had little experience covering the sport. However, by the end of the night I found myself fully enveloped in the action. I can't wait to get back to Pinedale, the five days we spent there wasn't nearly enough time to take in all the small town had to offer.

A Day In The Life Of A Backpacker

I thought it might be fun for everyone to see Travis in his natural habitat along the way to Titcomb. This was day two as we took a moment to refuel at Island Lake an then made our into the basin itself. I'm still bursting with smiles from our trip and I'm really not enjoying being back in Denver! Oh well, it will make my next return to The Winds all the better.

Cora Valley Ranch

I had the pleasure of meeting local historian and author Ann Noble yesterday on her family-operated, fifth generation cattle ranch in Cora, just north of Pinedale.  In addition to operating a successful ranch and a mother of four, she is an award-winning author who has published four books to date.  Her 442 page book, "Pinedale, Wyoming: A Centennial History, 1904-2004", took three years of extensive research, interviews, and searching through collections never before made public.

Ann was kind enough to give myself, Kathryn and Kris a highly informative and adventurous tour of the haying operation, from start to finish (although we kind of went in reverse!)  These are a few images of her family's beautiful ranch.

The Awe Inspiring Titcomb Basin Trail

Back to reality and civilization here for Travis and myself as we have made our way out of the Wind River Range and into Pinedale to catch up with the rest of the group. The two of us were lucky enough to get an early start as the backpacking group and eagerly made our way out to Seneca Lake on the first day of our travels. We made it to Titcomb Basin by day two and were overwhelmed by the spectacular views. It just so happens that the Titcomb Basin was recently profiled in Backpacker Magazine as one of the 10 most memorable hiking destinations in North America. One of the most memorable quotes came from a gentleman we ran into at a trail junction who admitted that "The Winds sure don't like to let people in!" and I can definitely empathize with that as I will be nursing some sore calves for the next week. Day three brought us to Indian Basin under the menacing faces of Harrower, Jackson and Fremont Peaks that presented us with quite a light show. After an early morning hike to Indian Pass for Travis, we made our way 16 miles back to the trailhead by nightfall (a little later for myself) and promptly laid out next to the car for the night. The hardest part is going to be sorting through images to edit, but here is a quick one for the time being. I'll be posting more in the coming days, but could not wait to let at least one or two out into the open! Thank you so much to the town and people of Pinedale and the Wind River Range! It truly was an amazing experience and I can't wait for my next trip to the Winds and a few nights stay out here at the Log Cabin Motel.
